    The Cub Cadet Z-Force 44 zero turn lawn mower is a powered by a Courage Pro engine from Kohler. This is a 2 cylinder engine that uses a fully pressurized lubrication system to keep everything working smoothly and efficiently. The engine has a paper element air filter which prevents dust and other contaminants from getting into the combustion chambers where they can clog and disrupt the firing process. There is a 12 volt key starting mechanism that provides 275 cold cranking amps to the engine. This battery then get’s recharged via a 15 amp alternator when the engine is running. The max power output from the Kohler engine comes to 20 hp. The Z Force 44 lawnmower uses a dual Hydro-Gear ZT2800 hydrostatic transmission to transfer power to the rear wheels. This gives you a top speed of 11.3 kph (7 mph) when traveling forward. All steering and power control is done with the lap bars in front of the driver.

    The mower deck on the Cub Cadet Z-Force 44 zero turn lawn mower has a cutting width of 44 inches. This mower deck houses 3 identical mower blades inside. The deck on the Z Force 44 is made from 12 gauge steel. The 3 blades are all belt driven using a Kevlar reinforced belt. You are able to adjust the mower deck over 3 inches from a high of 4 inches down to 1 inch above the ground. One of the very handy features of this deck is the SmartJet high pressure deck washing system (you just connect a hose and engaged the deck for about a minute or so) to clean the mower deck very quickly.

    When buying the Cub Cadet Z-Force 44, it comes with a limited warranty of either 180 hours or 3 years (whichever comes first). If you like the ZForce44 zero turn lawnmower, but want a wider mower deck, then you take a quick look at the bigger Cub Cadet Z-Force 50 lawn mower.

      Other than mentioned above, their deck washing system is pretty lame. Yes, if you attach a garden hose to the deck washing system and let it run for 20 minutes, it will eventually wash out most of the stuck grass.

      Pros: It’s a zero turn … that about says it all. No problems with the engine or transmission to date. I have about 325 hrs on the engine.

      Cons: DECK CLOGGING ISSUE: Unfortunately, I assumed Cub Cadet knew how to manufacture a stamped deck so that the grass would exit without clogging the deck when I bought it. The stamped deck has what I consider to be a significant design flaw in regards to allowing the grass to exit the deck. If you look all their current models (and almost all other zero turn mowers), you will notice a straight exit path of cut grass out of the deck. In other words, there is no “lip” or turn on the deck in front of the grass exit opening. Also on current Cub Cadet 44″ models, the physical width of the exit is several inches wider & deeper than my mower (obviously they realized the problem and hopefully corrected it). The exit opening on the deck at the front does NOT parallel the angle of the deck front, instead there is a slight curve to the rear on the deck before the grass can exit the deck. I get on clogs on dry grass starting at both the front and rear of the exit. I have spent a lot of time scraping out the clogged deck with a putty knife. I only recently discovered that if I cut at the very highest setting (4 inches), the clogging problem almost disappears. No idea why. This is my only complaint, but it’s a major one because I cannot replace the deck with a better design according to the dealer. I’m stuck with it.

      Bought this junk new and hate everything about it. Deck rusted thru first year I owned it. Wheels broke off the deck, crankshaft snapped, gets stuck in wet grass and cuts terrible. Three people in my family purchased these (different sizes), and all of them are crap. Stay clear of cub cadet!! Parts?? Parts cost you thru the nose.. Unless you have a big wallet and enjoy working on junk, don’t buy anything cub cadet. Don’t know what happened within their company (probably China or Mexico) but it’s no good

      Pros: I can’t think of any
      Cons: I bought this mower used, ran great for about 2 weeks. Even though it ran great it cut for crap, leaving a uncut strip in the middle. then I had nothing but problems getting it to start. Every time to start it I had to take the air cleaner off and shoot some starting fluid at it. Also the rear tires are to small, some people say “oh you just need to learn to drive it”. No I know how, if it’s wet just a bit you loose traction, if you try to use the zero turn without stopping completly, you loose traction. some bibber tires or a better hydro system would help this. Also the mounting for the front tires is so close that grass gets clogged in it and jamms the wheel. If you have a bumpy yard Stay clear of this unit the blade drive belt will come off if you hit to many bumps. Not fun at all to put back on right under the muffler. The deck is too weak, I mow with mine at 4 inches( all the way up) the deck mounting the two in the rear broke off, not rotted, not rusted, just cracked and broke. Now the engine’s wrist pin holding the piston broke destroying the engine. I will never buy another MTD product again. By the way, these are built in the city where I live. I have met some of the people who work there. THEY DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM!!!!

      I own a small engine shop in a small town in Iowa. My experience with this unit is not good. A customer brought one to me because it would run until you ingaged the steering or deck then it would shut down. After spending about 6 hours tearing the wiring loom apart to find out where the yellow and yellow and white wires shorted across each other I found a design flaw. The plug for the seat safety switch has coiled spring between the wire connectors. Over time the ends of this spring wear through the plastic and shorts the two wires together. This spring CAN NOT be seen unless you pull the connectors out of the plastic housing. I feel this was done intentionally to sell wiring looms. If this is not true then some one needs to prove it and the manufacturer needs to assume the cost of repair.
