The Husqvarna WHF4817 is similar to both the Husqvarna WHF6123 and the Husqvarna WHF5223 lawnmowers except that it has both a smaller engine and narrower cutting width. The engine that powers the WHF 4817 is a twin cylinder Kawasaki. This engine uses an air cooling system and has a total power output of 17hp. The engine uses a tandem style pump from Kanzaki and Parker wheels motor to transfer power to the rear wheels, each of which measure 18×7.5-8 (18 inch diameter, 7.5 inch width, 8 inch rim diameter). The top speed of this self propelled lawnmower comes to 11.3 kph (7 mph).

The mower deck on the Husqvarna WHF4817 is floating which means that it can follow the contours of the ground as it travels over it go give a more even cut. The mower deck is made from 10 gauge steel but has 7 gauge steel skirting for strength. Each of the 3 blades housed inside the deck on the WHF 4817 have a diameter of 16.25 inches. These blades are belt driven and are engaged using an electric clutch. Fortunately the mower deck can operate on very long grass thanks to the fact that it can be raised as high as 6 inches above the ground. It can also operate as low as 1.5 inches above the ground.

Even though the mower deck has a cutting width of 48 inches, it also has a large plastic protective discharge flap attached to the side of the deck that makes it’s total width 59 inches.
