John Deere JS20

The John Deere JS20 self propelled, walk behind lawn mower is powered by a Briggs and Stratton engine that has a displacement of 0.189 liters which is similar than many other JD walk behind lawn mowers. The Briggs & Stratton has a power output of 6.75 hp that is channeled to both the blade and the rear wheels which drive the JD JS20 forwards. The engine is a 4 stroke. There is a variable transmission used to control the speed of the mower.

The mower deck on the John Deere JS20 is 21 inches wide (just like on practically every single residential push lawn mower that you can currently buy). You have 3 different ways for dealing with the grass clippings. Many people collect them in the rear bagger (which has a capacity to hold up to 2.5 bushels). However others like to mulch them to provide nutrition to the grass after it’s been cut. The last option is also the ugliest (but the most convenient). This is to just simply discharge the clippings onto the grass after it’s been cut.

The rear wheels, which are responsible for driving the lawn mower forward are slightly bigger, measuring 9×2 (9 inch diameter, 2 inch width) while the front wheels each measure 8×2 (8 inch diameter, 2 inch width). All four wheels are not pneumatic. Some of the great features of the John Deere JS20 include a fuel cap that slowly delivers fuel stabilizer to the gasoline when the lawn mower is in operation, ensuring an easy start the next time you use it.  .There are 2 other similar models to the JD JS20 walk behind, self propelled lawn mower. These are the John Deere JS40 and the John Deere JS30 push lawnmowers. If you own this push mower, then please leave a review below mentioning both what you like and what you don’t like about it.

The John Deere JS20 is a very good mower that’s been around since 2003. Nothing runs like a Deere!

Overall very happy with mower, easy to maneuver

    Year of Manufacture: 8
Pros: Mower leaves a flawless cut, is easy to start, I always watch the fuel stabilizer drip and make sure that it is not empty for more than a cut or two. First cable to break was the transmission engagement and that broke after 7 years of service. Powerful enough to power up the hills in my yard, strong enough to cut the thick Bermuda that I have as well. This mower operated for3 years down in Florida before I moved up to South Carolina. It has now handled 5 years of seasons and is still going. The only thing that has hurt my mower was the day my daughter was backing out of the drive way and did not see it and busted a rear wheel off and now it happens to break every year. I believe the axle is bent and putting constant pressure and the hub is weakening during use. All in all a great mower.
Cons: The only con I have about this mower comes down to the rear bag attachment. the inside liner seems to degrade rather quickly, after 6 years of use”inside liner was gone after 6 months” I finally bought a new bag with the frame because the frame finally gave way. the new bag inside liner lasted about 3 cuts. Very disappointing. now the SC clay dust has nothing to keep it inside the bag.
    Attachments: rear bagger
    Modifications: none

the best push mower ever bought had 6 years trouble free mowed up to an acre of land now down to a 1/4 of an acre. was mowing grass for some people that live in town and still lasted for 6 years. The mtd push mower from walmart $163.00 one only lated for 2 years will not buy from mtd company a second time.

    Year of Manufacture: 2006
    Pros: john deere
    Cons: none
Attachments: rear bag which came with it

this mower mows so nice. and is very versatile. i like these mowers

    Year of Manufacture: 2005
Pros: I love these mowers. john deere and snappers are my favorite mowers. it is a very well built shell. it is a heavy duty lawn mower.
Cons: i wish they would put heavier duty engines on these mowers. like say robbins engine. or kohlers. something tougher than a briggs.
