John Deere JS30

The John Deere JS30 is part of the same JS series from John Deere that also includes the John Deere JS40 and the John Deere JS20 walk behind, self propelled lawnmowers. The JD JS30 is very similar to the other models as it also has a 21 inch cutting width that is standard among practically all small residential push lawnmowers. This mower deck is made from 14 gauge steel. There is a choice of collecting the grass clippings in a bagger or instead you can mulch them with an optional mulching plug. There is also the option of simply discharging the clippings out the side of the deck onto the grass (the messiest of the 3 options).

The mower deck on the John Deere JS30 is raised and lowered via the wheels. It can cut grass as low as 1.5 inches above the ground and as high as 4.25 inches above the ground, depending on how high you want your lawn. The engine that powers both the rear wheels and the blade in the mower deck is a Briggs and Stratton. This Briggs and Stratton engine has a total engine volume of 0.189 liters and is started electrically, unlike a lot of other push lawn mowers. There is also an operator presence system on the JD JS30 which cuts out the engine if you let go of the operating handles.

The fuel tank on the John Deere JS30 features a ‘Fresh Start’ fuel cap which which makes starting the engine that little bit easier. The total weight of the machine comes to 42.6 kg (94 lbs), making it light enough for most people to pick it up. It comes with a 2 year limited warranty as standard to homeowners purchasing it for personal use.

One Review of the “John Deere JS30”

  1. Larry Miller says:

Great at first but transmission is a POS.

    Year of Manufacture: 2006
Pros: Great electric start, always works
Cons: Transmission is bad after only 5 years unbelievable. I have a 3/8 acre yard which is centipede and flat.
A new trans. is the cost of a new mower.
