The John Deere Z950A zero turn lawnmower is one of the larger zero turn lawn mowers from JD, bigger and more powerful than the likes of the John Deere Z925A and the John Deere Z930A lawnmowers. The JD Z950A is powered by a large Kawasaki engine that has a displacement of 0.852 liters. This engine comes with a steel walled muffler to control the noise. The engine is air cooled and uses a 2 step air filter that comprises of a pre cleaner and then an a heavy duty canister air filter. The engine is lubricated using a full pressure lubrication system. The engine is a two cylinder. It draws gasoline from a fuel tank that can hold up to 43.5 liters (11.5 US gallons).

The engine on the John Deere Z950A transfers power to the wheels through a Tuff Torq dual hydrostatic transmission that gives the machine infinite speeds going forwards and in reverse. Each rear wheel is controlled by it’s corresponding lap bar. The top speed of the JD Z950A going forwards is 19.3 kph (12 mph), while in reverse it can manage a top speed of 8.1 kph (5 mph). The rear wheels, through which power is transferred each measure 24×12-12 (24 inch diameter, 12 inch width, 12 inch rim diameter) while the front wheels both measure 13×6.5-6 (13 inch diameter, 6.5 inch width, 6 inch rim diameter). The front wheels don’t have a thread, they are smooth as they are not required to grip the ground they travel over.

There is a choice of 3 different decks available for the John Deere Z950A zero turn lawnmower. The first is a 60 inch mower deck with side discharge, the second is a 60 inch mowing deck with mulch on demand capability and then finally the last is a 72 inch deck with side discharge.
