Husqvarna YTH1848XP
The Husqvarna YTH1848XP garden tractor lawn mower gets it’s power from a twin cylinder Kawasaki engine that pumps out up to 18 hp. This engine uses a full pressure lubrication system and has a spin on oil filter. The engine is started by a 12 volt battery that provides 280 cold cranking amps and is then recharged via a 14 amp alternator. The engine gets it’s fuel from a tank that can hold up to 13.2 liters (3.5 US gallons) of gasoline. This engine powers the mower deck on the YTH1848 XP.
The mower deck has cutting width of 48 inches on the Husqvarna YTH1848 XP. This deck is engaged with an electric PTO and the blades are belt driven. The mower deck operate over 2.5 inches, from a low of 1.5 inches to a high of 4 inches above the ground. On the front of the deck there is a nose roller and on the sides there are gauge wheels/anti scalping wheels. These all work together to keep the deck aligned to the contours of the ground that it’s traveling over. This makes for a very even cut and prevents the blades and deck from cutting or digging into the ground.
For dealing with the grass clippings on the Husqvarna YTH1848XP, there are 3 distinct and different options. The first is to simply throw them out the side of the deck through the plastic discharge chute. Unfortunately though, this means that your lawn is going to look fairly messy and ugly. Another option is to use a mulch plug which turns the clippings into mulch so they rot faster and don’t look so unsightly on your lawn. The last option is to purchase the rear bagger to collect the clippings. Similar models to the Husqvarna YTH1848 XP include the Husqvarna YTH1542XP which is smaller and the Husqvarna YTH2042 which is more powerful but has a smaller mowing deck.

I bought this mower new in 2005 to replace a JD STX38. It has been a much better mower than the JD. I have used it to mow the yard, aerate and to cut up leaves, limbs and twigs in natural areas. I pull a 15 gallon sprayer to use along fence line. The mower is not babied and has always hung in there. I have never changed the deck spindles only lubricated them. I have changed the belts only once. I have definitely gotten my money’s worth out of this mower. I believe it has been reliable because I have kept it maintained in accordance to the owner’s manual.

2. Knob type height adjustment.

No real complaint, I live in a small town and have driven it around because I can, go get lunch, have few beers since it has lights. I sort of feel like one of the characters from the TV series “King of the Hill” all of the guys on the Mike Judge animated series were proud of their lawn tractors and I guess I am. The Husky has never broken down while I was working so thats why I like it. I use a weel chair, Segway and a small electric scooter to get around do to a disability and this tractor allows me to keep maintain two properties.
I bought used from dealer with 150 hrs, I now have a total of 265 hrs
I replaced the seat as well, the tractor is kept outdoors in complete shade. I had to replace gas tank it was leaking. It is noisy but I figured its a small tractor and didnt expect more.
poor .it cost 2500.00 and I should have bought a johndeere
It cuts the grass….very disappointed overall though…I had an old 10 horse craftsman for 15 years that cut grass just as well on half the fuel. Cannot be used for anything but mowing on fairly level turf. Doesn’t have the A$% to pull a wagon load of firewood or anything else..just a mower. Generally you could get along with a lot less expense just to cut grass, 18 hp not needed.
It is a good lawn tractor for the price. If money is no object go to the John Deere dealer and pay through the nose for a John Deere lawn tractor. If you want a quality machine that will get the job done at a reasonable price buy a Husqvarna.
Reliable Kawasaki Engine
Very maneuverable
Easy to use controls
Does a great job cutting and leaves the yard looking nice
MUCH better machine than the MTD product it replaced
MUCH less expensive than a comparable sized John Deere with a
Kawasaki engine but is almost as good.
Since Husqvarna builds mowers for Sears so Craftsman blades will fit, as will the Craftsman three bin grass catcher attachment.
Three blade cutting deck is very LOUD, you will need ear muffs
The air filter on the Kawasaki Engine is not big enough to handle the dust this the cutting deck kicks up in dry conditions and it quickly plugs up. (My dad has a Deere with a Kawasaki engine and it has a larger air filter)
Part of the problem with the air filter is that the machins can suck dust in from around the bottom of the engine. Deere blocks the air except from the top pf the engine which keeps the air filter cleaner.
Three bin grass catcher attachment
Excellent
3 blades also create a lot of noise. Need ear muffs
