The Poulan 14542LT garden tractor lawn mower is one of the least powerful garden tractors from Poulan. It has a power output of just 14.5 hp. Larger, more powerful models than this one include the Poulan PO15538LT and the Poulan PO17542LT lawn tractors. The 14.5 hp engine powering the 14542 LT is a PowerBuilt model with a displacement of 0.5 liters. This 1 cylinder engine is prevented from overheating with an air cooling system. The engine is key started using a 12 volt battery. The moving parts are kept working smoothly thanks to a splash lubrication system. The gasoline engine draws fuel from a gas tank that can hold up to 5.7 liters (1.5 US gallons) of fuel.

Power from the engine on the Poulan 14542LT gets to the wheels thanks to a Peerless manual, gear shift transmission that gives the tractor lawnmower 6 speeds going forwards and 1 in reverse. It’s top speed is 8.9 kph (5.5 mph) and 2.7 kph (1.7 mph) when it’s reversing. The engine also powers the mower deck. The deck on the 14542 LT has a width of 42 inches and is made from stamped steel. This means that it has far fewer connections or weak points that can possibly break or fracture when compared to a bolted or welded mowing deck.

The operator on the Poulan 14542LT garden tractor is able to raise and lower the mower deck from a low of 1.5 inches to a high of 4 inches above the ground he is cutting.
