Husqvarna YTH2348
The Husqvarna YTH2348 garden tractor lawn mower is very similar to the Husqvarna GTH2648 tractor lawnmower as they both have the same cutting width of 48 inches. However the YTH 2348 has a much less powerful engine which means that it is not quite as capable of cutting long grass, however it’s still an incredibly useful machine. The engine powering it is a gasoline Intek model from Briggs and Stratton. This twin cylinder model powers the wheels by first passing power through a hydrostatic transmission that makes this lawn mower an automatic, with it’s speed completely controlled by the foot pedals.
The Husqvarna YTH2348 tractor lawnmower has a 48 inch mower deck. This deck houses 3 blades which work in unison to give all lawns an incredibly smooth and clean cut. While some people choose to discharge the grass clippings out the side of the mower deck through a plastic discharge chute, you also can collect them in an optional bagger system attachment. However it can be a big time waste to be constantly emptying the bagger of grass clippings. Something that requires far less time is using a mulcher plug which keeps the grass clippings inside the mower deck where they are thoroughly shredded up into a highly nutritious mulch.
The minimum turning radius of the Husqvarna YTH2348 is very low at just 18 inches, making it ideal in even small gardens with many difficult to manoeuvre areas. The mower deck on the YTH 2348 can be raised and lowered from a cutting height of 1 inch to 3.5 inches above the ground. When shipping, the machine tips the scales at 275.3 kg (607 lbs). Loved this mower. Did an excellent job. Would buy it again in a minute.
Has good power and can climb a steep slope but I had to add weight to the rear end. Has always been hard stating as it takes time to pull fuel up to the engine. Not at all impressed with the transmission and I had to pull it out 2 years ago to replace the fluid. I also had a weld break on the deck and replaced the front wheels and bearings. Mower is not user friendly and I doubt I’ll buy this product again.
Looking for a replacement clutch for the mower, any help would be appreicated
I bought this mower with just 6 hours on it in 2011 from Lowe’s at a reduced price of just over $1000. Evidently the previous owner didn’t like it or had issues with it. I have only used it on my 1/2 acre residential yard and I clean it up after every use. It has always been hard to start, but over the years it has gotten harder and harder so the first thing I did was to replace the battery with a higher rated battery, didn’t help. In the past year it started to die out while mowing sideways on a slope, I thought I had a carburetor problem and took it to the local Husky dealer for service. They did a complete service on the mower and found that the exhaust overhead valves needed adjustment; cost: $132.00. After all those years of jump starting, now if I look at it sideways it wants to start! The only other $$$ I have had to spend on it was: 2 front tires wore out, worn out deck belt, middle deck spindle/bearing broke (hit a stump), wore out the first set of mulching blades, and of course the battery. I can’t say that I’ve done too bad for the first 6 years and 131 hours on the mower.
The transmission went out after 200 hours. Looks like a will either have to get new tranny put inat a cost of about $900 or just go buy another brand. I am finished with Husqvarna. I should have researched this mower before purchasing. seems like transmission problems are very common with this brand. No more Husqvarna for me. I’m through.
OK
• Mows too low – In the highest position it mows at about 3 inches. In order to mow at the recommended 4 inches I raised the tractor an inch by placing blocks between the frame and the transaxle.
• The single point hitch at the front of the deck is weak and broke. I replaced it with a more robust hitch.
• The belt guard on the deck fill with grass causing the belts to overheat and shortening their life. By removing the guards I extended the belt live from 3 months to about 2 years.
• Dust and debris collects in the motor fins. The air box shroud is open at the back above the battery allowing dirt to inter the motor cooling system. I closed off the back of the air box, drawing air in from the side vents on the hood to reduce dust and debris in the motor cooling system.
• The steering system sector gear is under designed. I replace the pinion, shaft and sector gear after 3 years of use.
• The gas level viewing window is useless. I fill the tank with every use and do not even try to see the level in the window.
Very happy and I would buy another if something happened to it.
I have had this unit from the first day and can say I am very happy with it. I have 2 acres and part of my mowing is a field that I just keep cut. I can say this if you are going to change the blades use the ones that are better not only will they last longer but if you grow rocks like we do it helps.
I use the mulching blades more often and if you have tall grass it cuts through and if you run the cuttings over once or twice you will have no cuttings left on the lawn.
I replace the plugs oil and filter and the air filter once a season (The air filter I will blow out due to the dust and dirt) and it has always started I have replaced the battery once and now for the winter i keep a trickle charger on it so it will not completely die and should last longer.
It has plenty of power as within the last 3 years I have bought a lawn vac and it will tow that around like it is not even working so once again I am happy with it the engine is strong and I am now thinking of getting a spare deck just to have and to just exchange out so the one can be worked on when needed.
The other con is the bearings on the idler pulley’s get yourself a grease needle or two and use that to grease them I do that a few times during the season.
Those are the only two cons I have for this unit. It starts with the throttle at its lowest point and runs like a champ. I have always been a fan of B&S engines they are little work horses.
I’ve put this machine through a little bit of hell, moving over cutoff corn stalks and other scenarios that showed me the YTH2348 has some guts to it.
I would recommend this garden tractor to my friends.
