Kubota BX1860
The Kubota BX1860 garden tractor lawn mower is the smallest in the BX series of lawn tractors. It get’s it’s power from a Kubota built D722 engine. This engine is a 3 cylinder and uses a liquid cooling system. The engine is powered by diesel and has a displacement of 0.719 liters. This allows the engine to have a maximum power output of 18 hp. Power from the engine is transferred to the wheels via a hydrostatic HST transmission that gives the BX 1860 infinite speeds over 2 gear ranges both in forwards and reverse. The hydrostatic gearbox gives the garden tractor a top speed of 12.5 kph (7.8 mph) when traveling forwards and a top speed of 9.2 kph (5.7 mph) when it’s reversing.
The wheels on the Kubota BX1860 are large enough to both spread the weight of the tractor very evenly as well as provide great traction. Each rear wheel measures 24×12-12 (24 inch diameter, 12 inch width, 12 inch rim diameter) while each of the front wheels measures 16×7.5-8 (16 inch diameter, 7.5 inch width, 8 inch rim diameter). Another aspect of the BX 1860 that gives it great control is the fact that you can switch between 2WD and 4WD when you need extra traction and control.
The Kubota BX1860 can accommodate a mid mounted mower deck that has a cutting width of 48 inches, which has 3 blades. It can be raised and lowered over 3 inches via a dial gauge. The mower deck on it’s own weighs in at 81 kg (180 lbs). On top of this, it is also compatible with a LA203 front end loader. This loader can be lifted up to a maximum height of 1.81 m (71 inches) and has a maximum dumping clearance of 1.35 m (53.1 inches). It’s bucket has a width of 48 inches. The maximum breakout force of the bucket is 400.1 kg (882 lbs). Don’t forget that there is also a category 1, 3 point hitch on the rear of the BX 1860 garden tractor for towing.

I use this tractor for all yard maintenance plus as a garden tractor. We have a 1/2 acre garden that I plow each year. I also use this tractor for planting trees and digging up rocks in my yard.
tried to sell mower or trade to something else. no one wants these mowers.
If I had it to do all over again – there is no way I would do one of these models again. It’s a great idea – but Kubota did not spend the time fleshing out the idea to produce a very expensive product that just doesn’t hold up over time.
The plastic: ALL of it broken or cracked somewhere. The entire hood just kind of moves around because the plastic eyelets broke off. The lenses on the headlights came unglued. Headlights filled with rain water. The steering so far, has cost me over $1500 to ‘fix’ – and the tractor again just kind of wanders wherever it wants to. The tires are a joke – you can get better tires on a WalMart 10speed bike. The rear axle seals pushed their way out – dumped all the hydraulic fluid – and then sucked themselves back in place. The dash controls are useless. The little plastic fan on the drive-line is fin-less because there are no skid plates of any sort.
I can only hope the larger tractors are better designed and built.
