John Deere 5055E
There are two different variants of the John Deere 5055 utility tractor available. These are the John Deere 5055E which this review is about as well as the John Deere 5055D, which is a slightly different machine for a number of reasons. The John Deere 5055E gets it’s power from a John Deere designed and built diesel PowerTech 3029 turbocharged engine. This engine has a total volume of 2.9 liters and consists of 3 cylinders. It uses a liquid cooling system to prevent overheating and has a total power output of 55 hp. The power from this engine is transferred to the wheels using a SyncShuttle transmission system that gives the JD 5055E 9 gears when traveling forward and only 3 for reversing. The fuel tank can hold a maximum of 68.1 liters (18 US gallons) of diesel.
The top speed of the John Deere 5055E is 26.8 kph (16.6 mph). The JD 5055E uses hydrostatic power steering to make operation and driving the machine relatively easy and unstressful. The 3 point hitch on this utility tractor has a maximum capacity to hold up to 1447 kg (3192 lbs) safely. The hydraulic wet disk brakes on this tractor offer superior braking.
The series 5E, category 2, 3 point hitch on the John Deere 5055E is compatible with a large range of attachments from mower decks to backhoes, making this utility tractor highly useful around small farms, parks and gardens. You can actually purchase the JD 5055E with 3 different configurations. There is a 2WD, 4WD and MFWD versions which all have different weights. Similar models to this one include both John Deere 5045 utility tractors as well as the John Deere 5055D (obviously). If you own a 5055E, then please let other potential buyers know more about it by leaving a review below. I have had problems with it within 2 years after bought it new. 1st battery went bad, 2nd the started went out, then sensor, 3rd It started heating , now the head gasked blowed, when checked the block, it had so much gunk and rust in it. Where did this come from with only less than 1,00k hours on it.
I really enjoy using it.
My primary use has been operating the MX8 mower in pretty heavy brush and weeds. Found the HP and PTO rating to be adequate for the task. Fuel economy was excellent in my opinion averaging 1.25 gal/acre.
easy to operate
Have two 5055E tractors and both leak anti freeze in cold weather and both won’t turn over fast enough to start even when its not that cold out. Have tried using heavier batteries (795 CCA) still the same
came scratched from the dealership because they strapped it down with chains. Loader will not pick up what my 4 series did. Ac quit working. Tank had to be replaced. New tank didn’t match old and all they could say was oh well it will work. Power steering vibrates in your hands with the slightest movement of the steering wheel. They said nothing they could do it was normal. Starts very hard and its 80 degrees out now. Can’t wait till winter.
I have had a very good experience with this tractor so far. Coming up on one year of ownership. The tractor is very reliable and does everything I need it to do. No problems!!!
