John Deere LTR166
The John Deere LTR166 lawn mower is a little less well known than the likes of John Deere LT190 lawn mower and the John Deere LTR180 lawnmower, but nevertheless, it’s still a very high quality machine. It get’s it’s power from a Briggs and Stratton 2 cylinder engine. This gasoline powered engine produces 16 hp. The engine uses a replaceable foam and paper air filter to prevent particulate matter from entering into the air intake. The wheels on the JD LTR166 are driven by a hydrostatic transmission that gives it infinite speeds when traveling forwards and infinite speeds for when it’s reversing as well. This engine and transmission box is incorporated into a 4X2 2WD chassis. The engine is started by a 12 volt battery via a key start ignition.
The John Deere LTR166 garden tractor lawnmower comes with a 42 inch mower deck as standard which is adequate for cutting lawns up to 6 acres in size. The mowing deck can be configured in 1 of 3 ways. The first is to add in a mulching plug into it so that the blades finely cut up the grass clippings into a mulch that quickly decomposes and returns nutrients to the soil. The second and easiest is to just allow the grass clippings to discharge out the side of the mower. The last is to use a bagger to collect all the clippings so that none are left on the grass after you cut it. If you need to cut more grass than this, then it’s advisable to look out for a bigger John Deere mower than the JD LTR166.
The John Deere LTR166 is a quality machine that is compatible with a range of implements and attachments. Obviously there is a bagger that you can use on the back to collect all the grass clippings, but you can also add scrapers, scarifiers and utility carts. Just remember that you may need to add weight plates to the front of the machine to keep it balanced when adding rear attachments. You can also add a snow blower or front blade to the front of the JD LTR166.
