    The John Deere D100 is the smallest ride on lawnmower in the 100 series of lawn mowers (produced in 2011). Bigger models include the John Deere D110 and the John Deere D120 lawn mowers. Most people consider this to be the entry level model ride on lawn mower from John Deere due to it’s size and cost. The engine powering the JD D100 is a Briggs and Stratton 31 engine. This one cylinder, natural aspiration engine has a displacement of 0.5 liters and produces 17.5 hp. The engine is air cooled and uses a cartridge air cleaner that can be quickly changed and replaced. The engine has an oil capacity of 1.4 liters. Power is transferred to the wheels via a Dana 4360 transmission. This gives the garden tractor 5 speeds when traveling forwards and 1 in reverse. The maximum speed it can reach is 5 mph (8 kph).

    The engine on the John Deere D100 is started via a 12 volt battery that is charged by a 9 amp alternator. The maximum capacity of the fuel tank comes to 9.1 liters (2.4 US gallons) of gasoline. The mower deck on the JD D100 is 42 inches wide and has 13 different cutting heights, each of which is 0.25 inches bigger or smaller than the last. The great thing about this lawn mower is that it features the CargO Mount system which allows for the quick attachment and detachment of many different pieces of equipment from blades to baggers to snow blowers.

    The weight of the John Deere D100 ride on lawnmower is 200 kg (440 lbs). It has a wheelbase of 1.24 m (49 inches) and a total length of 1.74 m (69 inches). With the mower attached the width of the machine comes to 1.31 m (52 inches). However, it’s obviously much less wide without a mower deck.       Have had the D100 for 5 years and it has been a Hoss. I even missed the ramp backing off of an F150. After a quick recovery, the mower cranked right up and cut fine (no damage). Seems kinda fast in a residential yard but now I have 4 acres and it seems a little slow. Although it isn’t designed to cut 4 acres, I have done this once a week for the last 3 months and haven’t had any issues. I just purchased a Deere Z255 but I will defintely keep the D100. It has exceeded my expectations and I am extremely rough on my equipment. However, I do keep the maintenance up including touch up paint when I scrub something. I would recommend this mower to anyone.

      Wished I did better home work.

      Pros: Worked for eighteen months
      Cons: Do not buy. Less than two year old brakes failed part discontinued. Now have no brakes
      Attachments: Bigger noes not work if grass is a little wet clogs.

      Piss poor. Worst I’ve ever owned.

      Pros: None
      Cons: Piece of junk. Won’t cut, I have to go over everything at least twice. Mower deck fell, had to repair myself. Sharpened blades, still won’t cut. 1 1/2 acre lawn. I could mow it faster with a push mower. Backfires everytime I turn it off, clutch is jumpy and slides mower forward – causing me to mow over bushes. Luckily the blade won’t cut anything. I will never, ever buy anything that says “John Deere” on it again. Selling this piece of junk to some unfortunate soul and buying something else.
      Attachments: Bagger that doesn’t work.

      Cuts fast and quiet…Broke down after 10 hours…Complain to lowes, they decided to pick my D100 and replaced it with a brand new D100. I called JonnDeere and was terribly disapointed. They do not seem to care…Thank God I purchased it at Lowes.

      Pros: starts and runs ok
      Cons: left side of deck unstable and cuts lower than the right side does when making a right turn leaving your grass cut uneven which I dont like, I have had murrys and craftsmans that cut alot better than this cheap made John Deere D100. I will never buy another one.
      Modifications: needs something done to stableize the left side of the deck, the clutch about give you swiplash when you release it and its hard to get in the gears,

      Extremely poor due to factory set-up misalignment of Deck and Blades. This tractor should have worked from the get go. I am not happy with receiving a tractor with factory quality set-up issues and JD not willing to come to my home to fix their problem without me playing for an up charge for the visit first.

      Recommendation: buy Husqvarna, it costs less and mechanically superior.

      Cons: Forget the factory warranty and Customer Service support..my new D100 from Lowes had a Deck misalignment issue and one blade not torqued in correctly thereby producing two blade cut path with grooving. I did not expect this from a new factory product and that it was up to me to correct it as the local JD agent and John Deere would not cover this problem due tt me not having paid for and additional warranty at purchase. All costs to ship this tractor back to Lowes or JD was to be at my expense before any inspection of the tractor would take place (not cheap).
      Wish now I had purchased the Husqvarna YTH2042 – my neighbor purchased one a few weeks before me and it has worked from the get go without having to make any start-up adjustments.
      Final comment…John Deere service unprofessional and stinks… product support not to be trusted. This is not the company that I remember 20 – years ago with a solid back-up reputation.

      Just 11 hours to date but I expect it will last a long time. I have owned other John Deere equipment but never a lawn mower.

      Pros: Great machine. Mowes like a champ. Only have 11 hours on it so don’t know a great deal about maintenance. Owner maint. is simple and I like the idea of an oil filter. The seat is very comfortable. The five speed transmission provides an ample choice of speeds. Maybe the best feature is the steering. Its like power steering, just a touch of the steering wheel turns the machine. The turn ratio is fantastic. Turns on a dime with little or no effort. Makes it easy to mow around trees and other objects.
      Cons: I find the clutch a little had to push. There is room for improvement in that area. Also the nachine tends to JUMP forward when the clutch is let out. This could be a little dangerous if the rider is not ready to be lurched back in the seat. This takes some getting used to. I have owned several riding mowers and have never experienced this situation on any other machine, There is some engeneering needed in this area. I have talked to others with the same complaint.
      Attachments: Bucket holder and seat cover. The bucket holder is a must have. Easy to attach and provides a multitude of uses. The seat cover is neat, not only protecting the seat but it has pockets for carrying tools ect.

      A great mower that I would recommend to others.

      Pros: The mower has plenty of power and cuts like a dream. It is comfortable to ride and is not very noisy, I had a John Deere mower years ago and I know this is not as good as the old ones, but it sure seems like it. It handles much better and has better features than my old one. I started to buy the next model up, but it was a hydrostatic that I am sure I would have liked, but I have read that the hydrostatic is a higher maintenance mower and being over an hour from the nearest dealer, I don’t want to take it in any more than I have to.
      Cons: The only con I have is the reverse. It is difficult for me to hold the button to cut in reverse. And I often try to go to reverse without disengaging, just not used to it yet. But I realize it is a great safety item, so I don’t think any less of the mower because of it. I just have to get used to disengage before I back up.
